"So You Think You Can Dance" returns to the summer airwaves for a fourth season, seeking to uncover America's favorite dancer. Hosted by Cat Deeley, this competition reality show features amateur contestants testing their mettle in a wide variety of dance styles. "So You Think You Can Dance" airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT and Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Fox. The competition is judged by the show's producer Nigel Lythgoe and ballroom dance champion Mary Murphy. Each week, they are joined by a guest choreographer-judge.
Gallery: Meet the finalists
After a nationwide audition process, 20 finalists were selected to compete in the performance round. Paired into couples, the finalists work with top choreographers and learn routines covering various genres of dance. Each week, six contestants comprising the bottom three couples are given a chance to perform solo routines to encourage viewers to keep them on the show. Then the judges decide which dances stay and which two dancers are eliminated from the competition. When the field of finalists is winnowed down to 10 dancers, it's up to the viewers to determine the fate of the contestants. The live results reveal who keeps dancing and who goes home. The last contestant standing wins a $250,000 cash prize and the title of "America's Favorite Dancer."
